Moving the Election Date to save Taylor ‘s Pension
Let me start by saying many people have asked if Taylor Bachrach will even run in the next federal election based on his present day ranking in the polls. As one man said it “a snowball in hell would last longer that Taylor Bachrach will based on 338Canada poll results.” I wish someone could tell me what his expenditures are for 2024, in my humble opinion, my bet is, its record setting, compared to his previous years.
Bill C-65, the “Electoral Participation Act,” is the NDP/Liberal proposal to move the next fixed election date from Oct. 20, 2025, to Oct. 27, 2025.
Postponing the vote by even one day would also have the knock-on effect of securing pensions for 80 MPs first elected in 2019, who wouldn’t otherwise qualify if they lost their seats before hitting their six-year service mark on Oct. 21, 2025. The real motivation of the proposal was to protect the pensions of 22 Liberal and six NDP MPs, though the Conservatives have the most MPs – 32 – whose pensions would potentially be on the line, Taylor Bachrach’s included.
MPs are eligible for pensions ranging from $32,000 to $49,000 after six years of service and MPs first elected in 2019 are not eligible for the pension until Oct. 21, 2025 — something that would change if Election Day is pushed seven days and if they lose.
It should be noted that despite Taylor Bachrach’s condemnation for the Liberals, every opportunity he had to unseat them was met with a clear objective to make sure he would collect his own pension.
