Extortion politics leads to political violence.
It all begins with political intolerance, the notion that you must be right and the democratic system is wrong, this is the road that only leads to political violence. Blockades are the first step outside of the democratic process, its political extortion, call it anarchy or rule by force, imposing your will on others, it becomes the first step on the road to violent confrontation.
There is only one solution, make it an offence that lands you in jail immediately, If you are found guilty of more than one conviction hold them in jail till bail is paid. Re-offenders should face hefty bail provisions regardless of how much cash they do or do not have. No bail, stay in jail. Conviction should get no less than 30 days in jail, blockading is not a fundamental right of expression, its political extortion and it should get serious and immediate jail time.
To date all we have seen is revolving doors without anyone paying for the crimes they commit. Blockading must be made indictable offence and not a summary offence. To date the the B.C. Supreme Court interlocutory injunction is a lame duck, it does nothing to uphold the Supreme Court injunctions, its actually suggesting that there is almost zero chance to get convicted for flaunting the law in the face of the B.C. Supreme Court. Judge Tammen got right “The actions of the accused were a clear attack on the rule of law.” and out of 84 arrests one conviction. Congratulations goes to the BC Prosecution Service, you must be the envy of every defence lawyer, who could never match your record of allowing criminals to go free.
Its hard to rationalize why any radical protester, anarchist vandal or thief would even need to have a defence lawyer when they have the BC Prosecution Service serving them with 100% zero conviction rate. 20 million in taxpayers money flushed down the toilet thanks to the BC Prosecution Service and somehow this does not rate as worthy of headline news? There were 84 arrests made and to date the only person convicted was Adam Gagnon who was granted a vacation at Holiday Inn (his castle on the hill in Witset) with a leg monitor at home, and permission to go the the swimming pool in Smithers on a regular basis, what a joke. Its called a free get out of jail card based on race. This was only one of many instances where the law was broken by Adam Gagnon.
This is not democracy in action, this is extortion in progress.
Pay close attention to who took this photo, Its Dan Mesec, in 2019 Dan Mesec was the president of the NDP’s Skeena – Bulkley Valley constituency association, that oversaw Taylor Bachrach replacing Nathan Cullen as the NDP candidate for Skeena – Bulkley Valley. Dan very likely knows who the people behind the masks are, and its also likely many of those were part of the criminal attack on CGL employees. In Canada withholding evidence is not a crime.
The insane left excuses crime by Indians this needs to end, the NDP/Liberals are turning obstruction of justice into race based endorsements. Governments are encouraging extortion under the auspices of environmental protection. Being Indian should not be a free get out of jail card, but it is being used as such.
Mostly non aboriginals, again nobody went to jail or were fined for these offences, this is a goverment encouraging unlawful behaviour. Each and every person there should have been arrested and kept in jail till bail was set.
Illegal blockades are a form of political extortion, the right to protest should not be extended to those who by way of physical demands. They have the right to present their case to the public and allow the public the right to decide, you cannot and should never be allowed to hold the public hostage to your demands. While the right to protest must remain legal, as it’s a fundamental right in a democracy where and part of our freedoms. I should clarify, that a blockade might not be illegal to start with, but once it has been proven they are interfering with the rights of others, it should be deemed an illegal blockade. We all have rights, individuals cannot take the law into their own hands and subject other citizens to a loss of rights.
We need to amend current laws to include blockades as a form of extortion Extortion in Canada is defined as the act of using threats, accusations, or violence to coerce someone into giving up something, often money or property. It is treated as a serious indictable offense under the Criminal Code, with penalties ranging from a minimum of five years to life imprisonment, depending on the circumstances involved, such as the use of a firearm.
Unfortunately for many people, the right to protest is not enough, the right to organize opposition is not enough, so they start with push and shove politics, a form of extortion, we will disrupt civilized life unless we have our demands met.
Handing out literature, speaking in public places, is part of our democracy, blocking traffic, blocking streets is a form of political violence, it’s imposing your ideals that you must accept to end actions intended to disrupt your life as a form of extortion.
As we say when two of the primary activists, made it clear that their rights were more important than that of society, on the Morice logging road, they chose to take the first steps towards violence that always follows when the first stage of political violence does not get its intended results.
What happened to Charlie Kirk was a symptom of political intolerance, we have become so accustomed to tolerating the first stages of political violence that we now deal with blockades by getting a court injunction to stop them. If we want to end political violence, we have to make every form of it an arrestable offence, and follow though by arresting those who use extortion politics.
Further we should also make it illegal to fund those who use extortion politics. We need new laws to deal with extortion politics or what happened to Charlie Kirk will repeat itself in British Columbia.
Some of you might have forgotten on August 30, 2016 a quote from the Fraser Institute. (National Energy Board Hearing)
The ugly face of pipeline obstructionism (complete with violence) broke out yesterday at a hearing of the National Energy Board, which was taking public comment and testimony regarding the Energy East pipeline.
The meeting was cancelled after an anti-pipeline activist charged at the three-member panel of Energy Board commissioners, and had to be forcibly restrained. CBC reports that the table in front of the commissioners was “almost” knocked over.
Political Extortion
Outright Violence
Dogwood BC is an agitator here, possibly funding the confrontation. Contrary to what the video says, the blockade is on Nisga’a Land. (see evidence here) This video was posted by BC Dogwood with every intention of misleading the public regarding the correct ownership of the land here in question. A shameful display of intentionally lying by Dogwood BC while getting paid by Americans to stop Canada from developing its resources.
