A solid case for Separation

In many ways being part of Canada or confederation is like a marriage, and as is often the case there are those who give, those who take, and those who abuse their partnership, and like a marriage maybe its time to put a divorce proposal to Canada. In order to keep this article short and too the point, I will not engage in taking political sides but rather present some mind blowing facts about British Columbia’s relationship within Canada.

What is your vote worth in British Columbia?

The answer is not what I expected, somehow I was in a fantasy world where one vote is equal to any other vote in Canada. Not so, if fact the numbers are so astounding, it warrants a rethink our position with Canada.
Lets get right to it, here are some staggering facts. Every voter enters a ballot to choose an MP who will represent them in Ottawa.

Let’s do some side by side comparisons.

In British Columbia it takes approximately 121,274 voters per seat in Parliament.
Alberta is close to the same approximately 120,077 voters per seat in Parliament.

After this it gets in some cases, insanely different.

Saskatchewan only needs 84,274 voters per seat in Parliament
Manitoba only needs 98,840 voters per seat in Parliament
Ontario only needs 121,526 voters per seat in Parliament.
Quebec only needs 110,314 voters per seat in Parliament.
New Brunswick only needs 78,922 voters per seat in Parliament.
Nova Scotia only needs 90,186 voters per seat in Parliament.
Prince Edward Island only needs 41,079 voters per seat in Parliament.
Newfoundland and Labrador only needs 74,364 voters per seat in Parliament.
Yukon only needs 42,986 voters per seat in Parliament.
Northwest Territories only needs 45,504 voters per seat in Parliament.
Nunavut only needs 39,403 voters per seat in Parliament.

It would be fair to say in British Columbia voters ballots were worth the same as so called equal partners in Canada, British Columbia would be sending 129 MP’s to represent us in Parliament. Alberta would have sent 111 MP’s to our parliament, Saskatchewan would be sending 35 MP’s to our parliament.

How many of you reading this would think the Liberals won the election, if we had a fair vote in Canada.

But that is not all, what about what British Columbia gives in dollars to Canada, and what it gets in return.
